— DULCIEAbout Quinta Galegas
Quinta Galegas is a beautiful rural retreat space nestled in a picturesque river valley in the Beiras region of Portugal.
The house, gardens and natural swimming pool have been designed to provide a haven to unwind and immerse in abundant natural beauty, combined with the comforts of a lovingly restored 18th century country house.
Quinta Galegas is within walking distance of the village of Ribeiradio if you’d like to take a stroll up the hill to enjoy a coffee and peruse around the village.
It’s possible to walk along an eco pista (a railway tracked turned scenic walking route) from the village if you like to get your steps in. Just beyond the eco pista is a monument that you can climb for an incredible view of the river valley.
With lots of outdoor spaces to relax and soak up the sun, there is also living room, library and bar space within the main house to enjoy.
There is a beautiful wooden floored studio space on the lower floor of the house for the yoga practices.
About your facilitators
Chloe George and I have been co-hosting retreats for 4 years. Over this time we’ve honed our approach to create residential containers that are transformative as well as fun, playful as well as deeply restful and above all, nurturing. Our aim is that you feel completely looked after, with the autonomy to focus on what you need most from your retreat. Our schedules are always spacious, offering plenty of opportunities to come together with others for uplifting social time as well as time alone to nap, swim, read or walk.
We both teach intuitively and unhurriedly, working with an understanding of the nervous system and lots of compassion for wherever your body is at today. We focus on an embodied practice, encouraging deep listening to and expression through your body.
Retreats work their magic via the power of movement as well as stillness and rest, connection to each other as well as nature, wonderful food and comfortable, beautiful places to linger in. We’ve worked hard to create the very best experience for our guests, and we’re delighted to have many repeat clients who know the power of taking a bit of time for yourself.
The Yoga
We offer accessible movement, breath practice and deep rest to bring you back home to your body. With an emphasis on listening to your own intuitive preference and following your curiosity, you’ll experience real nourishment and appreciation for your body as we move and find stillness together.
There’s no pressure but there will be joyful connection with your body’s capacity, with options to feel strength and balance or allow yourself to rest. By the time you leave you’ll be feeling a million more times in your body than at the beginning of the retreat, with a renewed commitment to listening and looking after yourself.
There will be at least two practices on the non-travel days. On Monday there will be an evening practice before dinner for whoever would like to join. On Friday there will be a morning practice before our final shared breakfast and lunch.
About Your Hosts
Catherine and Simon are the heart and soul of Quinta Galegas. Over the last ten years they have poured a shed load of love and hard work into restoring the house and grounds. The rustic charm is off the charts and you really do feel enveloped in all the love that’s been put into the place.
They are both on hand throughout the week to make us feel at home and share some great chats . Guests leave the retreat feeling very inspired by the life they had built together.
Catherine is a herbalist and has an incredible herb garden which she’s happy to offer a tour of, peppered with interesting facts about the healing properties of what is growing.
All our delicious food is made from scratch by them, using lots of ingredients from their kitchen garden.

The Food
All meals will be lovingly prepared by our hosts Si and Catherine. Tea, coffee and herbal water and fruit are available all day. Expect delicious and plentiful vegetarian food partly grown on site and fresh orange juice squeezed from trees from the orchard.
Breakfast will be a buffet of local bread, jam, eggs and cheeses, fruit, porridge and chia puddings. Lunch tends to be a salad or soup, vegetarian sushi or fritters, with a delicious pudding to follow. For dinner we’ll enjoy a curry, stew, tortellini or wood-fired pizza.
Alcoholic drinks are also available to purchase for those who wish to partake, prices vary (they’re very reasonable).
We have evening drinks on the terrace for whoever would like to join and share a drink and some nibbles on the veranda before we sit down for dinner.
Accommodation
Accommodation consists of five bedrooms in the main house, three in a separate poolside building and single occupancy glamping in the Orange Grove camping field on site.
All rooms in the main house have en-suites. Poolside rooms and glamping tents have a shared washroom.
There will be two single occupancy rooms available within the main house (one double, one king, both en-suite), two with roll top baths, 3 with shower rooms. The glamping option is also based on single occupancy.
-
The 5 bedrooms in the main house are the most premium option. All are en-suite and beautifully decorated. Two of the rooms are single occupancy (one double, one kingsize).
The remaining 3 rooms are set up for 2 people to share, with one single bed and one kingsize bed in the room. The rooms, and beds, will be allocated on a first come first serve basis (based on preference).
-
Lake house accommodation consists of 3 twin rooms with shared washroom facilities. Next to the lake style swimming pool, these rooms are perfect for rolling out of bed for a refreshing morning dip before our shared practice.
-
The final accommodation option is glamping in the orange grove glamping field on site. If you really want to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Quinta Galegas, this is for you!
Tents will be set up with a double mattress for single occupancy. There are three tents available for our retreat. Glampers will have access to a newly build shared washroom and a lovingly converted caravan which serves as a chill out / coffee making / electronic charging area (both these spaces are absolutely charming).
The glamping site is looked after by Si and Catherine’s very good friends Emma and Marb. They live on site in their converted Airstream. The orange grove camping site is their home and you feel held in it’s comfort and beauty. The glamping site is exclusively for us during our retreat.
